Hiking Sullivan County

Sullivan County and the surrounding area have many hikes suitable for novice and advanced hikers alike. Some of these hikes are located in town parks, some are railtrails and some are found on state forest lands. The surfaces for the hikes and terrains vary from flat and smooth to those of a more rustic nature, so there is something for every adventurer. One of our favorites, though on the strenuous side, is the view from the fire tower at Balsam Lake Mountain.

Angler's Paradise

Roscoe, 10 minutes up the road, is a haven for anglers, with 5 of America’s top trout streams. Located in the southwestern section of the Catskill Mountains, this region is blessed with rugged mountains, pristine rivers, lakes, and ponds. Just west of town, the world-renowned Beaverkill River and Willowemoc Creek meet in the legendary Junction Pool. A short ride west of town, angles will find the East Branch, West Branch, and the Main Stem of the Delaware River. These rivers provide anglers with world-class trout fishing and other diversified river fishing opportunities.

Downtown Livingston Manor

A town in upstate New York filled with activities for the whole family is Livingston Manor, about a 15 minute drive from Callicoon Hills, which is an historic Catskills Mountains town set alongside the Willowemoc river at the southeast edge of the 300,000 acre Catskill Park. Main Street has several restaurants, art and antique shops, and is the scene of an annual ‘trout parade’ in June. Livingston Manor is also known as the birthplace of American fly fishing and the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum is on the north edge of the town. While you're there, make a stop at nearby Upward Brewing, which is located on a 120-acre preserve called “Beer Mountain”. Hike to the top before enjoying some well deserved beers. Cheers!
